Stress is the chaos that fills all lives; it spares no age or gender.
This is the weight that has filled me and you, making us detest the very gift of life.
There is hope, another gift to overcoming stress through Christ; the burden to carry is now not mine.
Holding onto Jesus and walking with Him into the chaos of stress is setting the weight down and finding the strength to endure and overcome it all.
The Modern Weight: From Broken Hearts to Empty Rooms
Stress and breathing go hand in hand in our modern living.
At different ages in a person’s life, stress has its own character in performance.
For the young, it can be an agony of a broken love affair—the text that never comes, the sudden coldness from someone who once promised forever.
It can also be the stress of a career before it even begins, the sting of a rejection letter, or the soul-crushing silence of being ignored by a friend’s group that once felt like a family.
Social media tells them they are falling behind, and their hearts and minds believe the lie.
Overcoming stress through Christ is often missed in middle age, leaving people overwhelmed when they fail to choose Jesus.
It is a slow drift into a marriage that has become just an arrangement for the children, with no real love left.
For some, it is lying awake at night worrying about a child who has lost their way or the crushing stress of being squeezed between aging parents and demanding employers.
A life that once felt meaningful and lovely is like living on a treadmill.
For the elderly and the retired, stress takes a toll when living in an empty house that once felt like home.
The phone doesn’t ring, ushering in a new reality in their lives called loneliness.
They think of the career mistakes, the missed opportunities, the failed relationships, and the wasted time—as if they could time-travel to repair each one.
The stress, rather than a natural reaction, is now a chosen feature of modern living.
Is there truth in overcoming stress through Christ as the modern-day remedy?
The modern-age weary soul is not accepting the promise of Jesus, who offers His peace that transcends human understanding, bringing mental and spiritual well-being through faith.
Come to Me, The Promise
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
(Matthew 11:28)
The above verse is a promise from the “Good Shepherd” in Christ.
Jesus knew the world and its people would always be troubled and lost, and thus He gave us each this promise, an assurance that His presence would comfort each of us in our moments of misery and burden.
Jesus has lived it all.
His walking on earth had Him live it all as He lived as a human, just like you and me, with all the life, agony, and pain.
So, Jesus’ understanding of stress comes from experience.
The stress reached its peak in the Garden of Gethsemane, and His sweat became drops of blood.
Overcoming stress with Jesus becomes real as believers entrust themselves and all their hardships to Him, finding strength amidst chaos and pain.
Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
(Isaiah 49 :15)
Jesus will care for us more than our own mother would.
His choosing death on the cross is evidence of His unconditional love for humanity, so that human sins and walking away from God had a redemption in Jesus’ own sacrifice.
Jesus’ care goes far beyond any person’s love or worldly power.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.
(Isaiah 49:16)
Jesus’ words for us each are,
“You are special to me, and you’re always under my sight, as your name always stays before me.
I will never forsake you…”
The verse speaks of a sign of ownership and deep care.
For Jesus, His people are cherished and always loved.
In the Holy Bible, we find many verses that promise God’s love, concern, and protection for each of us.
Overcoming stress through Christ is His call, an invitation to lay it all on Him.
As Jesus says, the burden and the consequences of your life, sinfulness, and shortcomings are not yours to carry.
“I love you,” says the Lord. “How could I let you suffer and bear it all alone?”
The Heavy Laden: The Weight We Carry
Every life has a story, a pattern of its own.
We all carry burdens that can be lifted when we believe in Christ.
Overcoming stress with Christ begins with us admitting the condition before the Lord.
Many of us are carrying things Christ never asked us to bear.
- The teenager carries the weight of identity—trying to curate a perfect life for a digital audience.
- The adult carries the weight of provision—the relentless pressure to secure the future.
- The senior carries the weight of regret and decline—the grief of fading strength and missed opportunities.
We are living it all wrong.
We carry the weight of other people’s opinions.
We carry the weight of past failures and future worries.
We carry the weight of trying to save ourselves.
We want to be the savior of our own life events.
The thought that I must fix this, make it right, is an error that makes us suffer for a long time.
We were never designed to hurdle all burdens in life.
We have our limitations.
Imagine a traveler carrying a massive stone on his back who’s now broken by the weight and sweating under the sun.
The stone has to be carried and not dropped.
Then a strong man approaches this man and says,
“Put that weight down; I will carry it for you.”
And He does…
That strong man is Jesus.
He is not just speaking positively or encouraging you not to give up;
Jesus is placing Himself to replace you in carrying the burden of your life.
Overcoming stress through Christ is what the scriptures speak of again and again, proving to us that our savior is willing to bear this burden for us.
Let the very presence of Jesus in these moments of despair and pain calm us from all these fears, uncertainties, and pressures of life.
The Walk that Will Bring Rest
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
(Exodus 33:14)
Walking with Jesus is walking with your comforter, healer, and savior.
The Lord has kept it very simple; we just need to hold on to Jesus, letting Him walk with us when in these moments of despair and chaos.
He is the Father who will carry it all for you.
He is the elder brother who will protect you from the ongoing storm in your life.
In Mark 4:35-41, Jesus had promised us the above fatherly/brotherly protection.
Overcoming stress through Christ begins with having a personal daily relationship with Him.
The problem and stress are now resolved by the One who walks beside me.
There will be rest and comfort, a hand that rests on my shoulders, saying,
“Calm down, everything will be fine, I’m there beside you.”
Life can be stressful, but it can also be beautiful when you surrender and hold on to Jesus in all faith as your life savior.
This surrender will bring peace.
Faith will be the anchor.
Wisdom and purpose, even in trials.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation… present your requests to God.”
(Philippians 4:6-7)
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
(1 Peter 5:7)
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
(Isaiah 26:3)
“Lord, I give this day, my worries, to You” should be your prayer.
Overcoming stress through Christ every day should be your hope, your strength, and your journey in this walk of life, this one life, spent with the Lord.
“The moments spent with Christ are the true wealth you accumulate, making life genuinely worth living.”
